Functional Nutrition
Have you tried “everything” and still cannot lose weight?
And by “everything” we mean:
-
Fad diets - Atkins, South Beach, HCG, NutriSystemTM, Weight Watchers
-
Cleanses - juicing, fasting
-
Food lifestyles - Paleo, Vegan, Vegetarian, Raw Food
-
Food based on your blood type
-
and the list can go on and on…
Are you stressed out and feel drained most, if not all, of your day?
No matter how much sleep you get, you wake up as if you have not had any sleep at all. Are you in a constant state of fight, flight or freeze?
Are you sick and tired of feeling sick & tired?
You eat healthy, exercise, get enough rest and yet you still feel run down, exhausted, depressed…
If any of this sounds familiar, you are in the right place if:
-
You’re ready to become empowered as your own health advocate
-
You’re ready to take responsibility for your own health by making sustainable choices to improve your quality of life
-
You’re ready to invest in yourself and take control of your own wellness
Then let’s do This ~

What's THIS?

THIS is taking a holistic health approach (mind-body-spirit), focusing on the role nutrition plays in our overall well-being and utilizing Food as Medicine. Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine, said “Let Food be Thy Medicine, and Medicine be Thy Food” as well as “All disease begins in the Gut”.
THIS also utilizes a Functional Nutrition method of finding the root cause and figuring out what is going on. Each person is unique and we need to delve deep into uncovering the underlying causes for current health challenges.
So what do we mean by Functional Nutrition?
It is a system based on Functional Medicine, which according to Dr. Mark Hyman “seeks to identify and address the root causes of disease, and views the body as one integrated system, not a collection of independent organs divided up by medical specialties. It treats the whole system, not just the symptoms”.
According to Dr. Peter Osborne, "the [functional medicine] philosophy recognizes that each patient is a unique individual with a unique set of genetics and biochemistry, as well as a unique set of environmental and lifestyle factors ... two people could potentially have the same health issues with a completely different set of causes."
"Functional Nutrition is the answer to some of the problems in health and healthcare today. It’s a modality that works to not just support, but educate the patient in what’s going on in their body and how making uniquely targeted diet and lifestyle modification will shift the terrain and help them to meet their goals." Andrea Nakayama, FNLP, MSN, CNC, CNE, CHHC, co-founder of Hashimoto's Institute.
Delving deep requires looking into all areas of life:
-
predisposing factors as such familial history, genetics, age, gender, etc
-
triggers such as significant illnesses, emergencies
-
areas in life that exacerbate symptoms such as stress, gluten, sugar, phobias & fears
We will look into gastrointestinal status, immune & inflammatory balance, detoxification, hormones, environmental inputs by:
-
Comprehensive health history
-
Evaluation of the patient’s lifestyle and environmental factors.
-
Functional outcomes based laboratory workup to identify nutritional deficiencies, toxic environmental exposures, food allergies, etc
-
Education based approach so that ultimately the patient is less dependent on the doctor to maintain their health.
