Cancer - what you may or may not know
How Many New Cases and Deaths Are Expected to Occur This Year?
About 1,685,210 new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in 2016 (Table 1, page 4). This estimate does not include carcinoma in situ (noninvasive cancer) of any site except urinary bladder, nor does it include basal cell or squamous cell skin cancers because these are not required to be reported to cancer registries. Table 2 (page 5) provides estimated new cancer cases in 2016 by state.
About 595,690 Americans are expected to die of cancer in 2016, which translates to about 1,630 people per day (Table 1, page 4). Cancer is the second most common cause of death in the US, exceeded only by heart disease, and accounts for nearly 1 of every 4 deaths. Table 3 (page 6) provides estimated cancer deaths by state in 2016.
What Are the Costs of Cancer?
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality estimates that the direct medical costs (total of all health care expenditures) for cancer in the US in 2013 were $74.8 billion. Forty-four percent of those costs were for hospital outpatient or office-based provider visits, and 40% were for inpatient hospital stays. These estimates are based on a set of large-scale surveys of individuals and their medical providers called the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS), the most complete, nationally representative data on health care use and expenditures. After experiencing loss of a dear friend to a brain tumor, Michele has been researching how to take care of the body, naturally, to strengthen the immune system and combat this evil called cancer.

Complementary (natural) Healing Modalities
For centuries, cancer has been treated, and prevented, with a variety of "natural" modalities (a particular mode in which something exists or is experienced or expressed) consisting of nutrition, herbs & spices, accupuncture...
Upon researching the types of treatment currently being used in the United States, no where to be seen was the discussion on building up the immune system and most were inserting poison into the body while the body was at its most devastated state. The Standard Care for treatment includes Chemotherapy (a known carcinogen, also lowers WBC), Radiation (causing hair loss; possible nausea, vomiting or diarrhea; carcinogen), Surgery (removal of tumor, but normally not stem cells), Hormone Therapy (blocks body's own ability to produce hormones). In essence, the body is already weakened by the mere fact it has cancer and the standard care offer treatments that either create more cancer, or weaken the body even more making it impossible for its own natural healing.
This page is to bring awareness of other treatments that have been around for years that are not encouraged by the medical community, and even worse, hidden from the public that have proven to cure some forms of cancer. Some of these treatments have been banned from the United States.
“Those diseases that medicine cannot cure are cured with knife. Those that Knife cannot cure are cured by fire and those that Fire does not cure considered incurable," was stated by Hippocrates almost 2,500 years ago. I believe we need to return to Let Food by thy Medicine, and Medicine be thy Food that Hippocrates spoke of.
Foods (herbs, spices, fruits, vegetables) such as Turmeric (curcumin) combined with black pepper and quercetin [plant flavonoid found in many foods] kill cancer cells; Allium [garlic, leeks, young green & yellow onions] and cruciferous [broccoli, brussel sprouts, et al] veggies stopped cancer growth. Fruits such as black raspberries are packed with phytochemicals called anthocyanins, which slow down the growth of premalignant cells.
Ever hear the phrase Eat the Rainbow? Your best bet in boosting your immune system, which is your body's own defense on cancer, is to incorporate every color into your diet and eat foods that are unprocessed and as close to nature as possible.
Essential Oils such as Frankincense, Myrrh and Sandalwood have long been used by various cultures as a natural remedy for virtually every disease, including cancer. For over 5,000 years frankincense (Boswellia Serrata) has been used to support the immune system, fight infection and cure diseases. Yes, even cancer!
A 2013 study by University of Leicester researchers indicated that frankincense contains a compound AKBA (acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid) that targets cancer cells, including ovarian, brain, breast, colon, pancreatic, prostate, and stomach cancers.
Lemongrass is effective against cervical cancer and researchers found that lemongrass not only stops cervical cancer cells (as well as several other types of cancer cells) from spreading, but it also initiates cancer cell apoptosis, also known as programmed cell death.
Research other modalities such as Ozone therapy (hyperbaric chambers - cancer hates oxygen) and Far Infared Saunas (cancer cells do not like hyperthermia) to name a couple. Look at the treatments outside of the United States that are having major success.
We are not saying that the Standard Care therapies are never needed. However, we encourage you to look "outside the box", be willing to go against your oncologist - at least to research what is available. Chances are, they will never encourage you to do so.
Blogs will be written based on new research for informational purposes only. We do not claim to be prescribing as that is beyond our scope of practice.
